Noah Roszczipka "Waverine"

Not sure on the title on this one? Beautiful use of a combo intaglio wiped and relief rolled plate. More bang for your buck and color. I think Noah should mos def have his own blog. This guy says the wildest yet truest things day in and day out. Blog it up my friend I am sure we would all check it out at least once a month. Currently, Noah is working on a medusa plate and imagining a mythic battle between werewolves and robots. Hopefully more to post later.

"Blue doll" by Hannah Lehmann

Exciting little print by Hannah Lehmann. Interesting use of the folk nesting dolls. Great application of pattern and detailed here. Hannah did a really detailed series of these prints with variations in chine colle and hand coloring as well. I like the thought bubbles and use of paisley. Let's bring paisley back! Hannah also did a "printstallation" in my screen printing class last semester with paisley and pattern and yes some random mannequin legs. What is a "printstallation" you ask? It is a word I coined and project I give that incorporates equal parts printmaking and installation. See below

Courtney Macklin "If"

Courtney has an interesting aquatint method using contact paper stencils as a tool of creating the image on the plate. She is primarily a photographer, but does a lot of mixed media work with blurry self portraiture. Her work is interesting for its ephemeral qualities. Nice spatial composition here and placement of the image. Good use of aquatint.

etching class prints

Erin Morlock "too tight"

This print came from the first project to completely rework an inherited plate. Students started with an old plate from a student form an earlier semester. Erin did a good job changing this image. It went from a wacky bird eye shape to a landscape and then finally this state as a button. I think Erin must be a fan of the white stripes and the song the hardest button to button. Or not.
Great use of color through chine colle. Nice job reworking the image via scraping and burnishing. Good focal point area of emphasis with the contrast in the button.

prints from the etching class

Chelsea Younkman's etching: "but i only had two mountain dews today juliet"

Good stuff. Chelsea has a realistic method in all of her portrait work most notably her large scale monochromatic painted portraits of her friends, but also in her prints. These work are candid views of her friendships and have wacky titles that are as much a portrait of her relationships as the visual depictions themselves. I enjoy the unfinished quality in the work.
